We will also have a Halloween party at the end of the day. You are more than welcome to join us in our classroom at 1:20 for some good times. Our class will participate in a few fun centers and enjoy a Halloween story.

One of our centers will be decorating cupcakes. If you are able to donate unfrosted cupcakes, please let me know. Also if you can donate frosting and decorations for the cupcakes, that would be wonderful. You can write me a note and let me know if you can donate any supplies.

So if you have any “Fall” related items we would love to have them. Anything with apples, pumpkins, candy corn, scarecrows, fall leaves, etc. It can be items for the kitchen, items for children to play with, items for your home, whatever you would like to donate. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

October

There are lots of fun things that we are learning in October. This month we are learning about fire safety, spiders, bats, pumpkins and skeletons. Every week we are continuing to learn two new letters and their sounds. We have reviewed the letters a through l and will continue with m and n next week. We are learning how to write our numbers 0-10 correctly and matching the number to the correct amount of objects.

Please make sure that your child is reading his/her reading book with you nightly. Ask your child to point to a certain word in the book. Ask him/her to spell that word. You can write the words from the book on index cards and review the words isolated so your child will recognize the word away from the context of the book.

Please review at home the words to know. These words are important. You can write these words on index cards and review with your child nightly. Make a memory game out of the words or play go fish with a set of the words.

Open House is this Friday, Oct. 7th from 5 to 6 P.M. for the grades K-2 and 6 to 7 P.M. for the grades 3-5. This is an opportunity for your child to show you around the classroom and have him/her discuss our daily routines.

Our Fall Carnival is Saturday, Oct. 22nd. I will have a sign up sheet at Open House for any parent who would like to volunteer their time to our class booth. This will count towards your volunteer hours. I would appreciate any help offered.

Picture order forms were due on Monday, Oct. 3rd. I hope all that wanted to order pictures were able to do so. Please let me know if you need extra time.

Our class has made their Oct. shirts. They will wear these shirts every Friday in Oct. The students will get their shirts on Friday, Oct. 7th. They will change into their Oct. shirts and place their Boston Ave. shirts in their backpack to take home. Once the Oct. shirts are home, please wash them inside out. I have written on the calendar in the B.E.E. binders on which days to wear the Oct. shirts.

There is no school on Friday, Oct. 14th. This is a teacher workday.

Thank you to everyone who has brought in snack for our class so far. We have enjoyed the special treats!!!!!

Upcoming Events

We have a few exciting upcoming events:

No School is on Friday, September 23rd.

Progress Reports go home on Monday, September 26th. Please sign and return report to teacher.

Our class is decorating “October shirts” that can be worn every Friday in October. Wait until you see how cute they look.

Our Fall Festival will be on Saturday, Oct. 22nd from 10-3. Our class will participate in a basket raffle. Our theme for the basket is “Fall Fun.” If you have any items that can be donated to our basket, that would be greatly appreciated. Items could include anything that you usually do in the Fall. For example: caramel apple decorating, sidewalk chalk, apple cider packet with mug, arts and crafts supplies with pumpkins, black cats, scarecrows, etc. Anything that you can help donate would be wonderful!! We will raffle our basket off at the Fall Festival and our class keeps all profit from the basket to help with school supplies or off set the cost of upcoming field trips.

Also I will send home a sign up sheet for volunteers who would like to help run our booth at the festival. I will send home all the information in a week or two. So make sure you check your child’s B.E.E. binder.

I will be absent due to a meeting on Friday, October 7th which is also our Open House. I will be back to school that night for our Open House. Open House will be from 5-6 for grades K-2 and 6-7 for grades 3-5. You can visit our classroom anytime between 5-6. This is a time for you to look around our classroom and the things your child has created and your child can show you around his/her room. Open House will end promplty at 6 for our class to allow the 3-5 grades a place to park in the parking lot.

Report Cards go home on Tuesday, October 25th. Please sign the sleeve of the report card and return it back to class.

Our Monster Mash and parade will be on Monday, Oct. 31st. Your child may dress up for Halloween but please nothing scary and no weapons. We will have a monster mash in the auditorium during special area time where the children will dance and have fun. Our parade will be at the end of the day. You are invited to join in on the festivities during the monster mash and parade. I will exact times for you in the near future. Please make sure that you have a volunteer form filled out to be included.

As soon as I find out who has been cleared to volunteer in our classroom, I will call and set up dates and times for you to come in to help with copying, organizing, etc.

Thank you!!!!!

What We’re Learning!

We have been focusing on class rules and manners that are appropriate for a classroom setting. The students are becoming well adapted to our daily schedule and learning more about everyone in the classroom.

Our class has been learning about colors!!!! We have been learning how to spell our color words, read our color words and sing our color words. We made our own individual, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” book. The students especially loved making that book and they even got to go to different classrooms to read them to others.

We have learned about different shapes including triangle, square, circle, oval, rectangle, rhombus, hexagon, and trapezoid. The students enjoyed making pictures out of their shapes. Some were extremely creative.

We are starting a unit on apples this week. We will make an apple lapbook. This will take two weeks to complete but in the end it will be well worth it. Lapbooks are an excellent way to organize information that is learned.

Show and Tell Schedule

All of the students are so excited to begin show and tell. The following is our show and tell schedule for the school year. Every week your child can bring in something to share with the class, please do not bring toy weapons or something that is breakable. In Kindergarten accidents do happen.

Mondays: Danielle, Kylee, Ronin, Juan

Tuesdays: Mathias, Jordan, Rakaysha, Jakobe’

Wednesdays: Noah, Benjamyn, Randy

Thursdays: Alicia, Cierra, Chase

Fridays: Dalton, Max, Andrea, Genya

Homework and Words to Know

Homework has gone home today. Please help your child complete his/her family project. The family project is due this Friday, September 2nd. I can’t wait to see what everyone has created.

You will notice that there are “words to know” listed to the left of each week. These are the high frequency words that your child will need to know by the end of Kindergarten. I will make a category at the top of the website that will have all of the high frequency word lists for you. You can print these lists out and play a memory game, you can write the words on an index card and use them as flash cards, you can cut them apart and use them in sentences, etc.

Please make sure that you and your child are going over the words to know nightly. These are basic sight words that will help your child begin to read. Normally these words cannot be sounded out so the more he/she sees the word the more he/she will learn them. We will also practice these words daily in school.

Great first two days of school!!

I am excited to let everyone know that our class has had a wonderful first two days in school. Our class is learning about their new friends, good manners, listening and following directions. The students have been complimented for their fantastic line walking down the hallways. Yeah!!!!!

It is very important that if you have not brought into class a plastic pencil box or 1.5″ white binder with pockets that you do so by Monday, August 29th. The binder contains important daily information that parents need to know about. Also homework is stored in the binder and homework will start Monday.

Thank you to everyone who has brought in ther pencil boxes and binders. I greatly appreciate it.

Please make sure if your child has a change in transportation that you write me a note in the morning so I am aware of this change. I want to make sure your child gets home correctly. This is extremely important and it helps make your child feel secure.

Thank you for sharing your child with me this school year. We are off to a great start!!!
